TISC would not be possible without the many volunteers who put their time and
energy into making our facility and programs accessible for everyone in the San
Francisco Bay Area Community. We are always in need of people who want to help
out--for one day or for an entire project. The benefits of volunteering
at TISC include:
- A great way to meet people
- Learn how to sail by taking one of our Adult Classes (volunteers get a
discount!)
- Choose which area you want to help out in and how involved you want to be:
- working with kids
- helping sailors with disabilities
- improve the facility
- help maintain boats for our classes
- help with mailings and/or press releases
There are countless ways to help out regardless of whether or not you
presently know how to sail. Below are some ways that you could spend your time
helping TISC: YOUTH SAILING
- Instruction: teach new young sailors the basics of how to sail in
Opti's, J24's, Access Dinghies, or FJ's-(note- volunteers must be experienced,
certified as a Level I Instructor, and open to a background check if
necessary)
- Assistant Instructor: assist Sailing Instructors on shore and on
the water
ADAPTIVE SAILING
Volunteers for this committee coach, instruct, and support training and
adaptive events. Boating, disadvantaged and engineering experiences welcome.
- Instruction (coaching/teaching)
- Assisting with instruction (Dock Buddies)
- Paralympic team coaching
- Organizing adaptive sailing events
RACING
As groups and/or organizations want to set up a race for their fleet at
Treasure Island, those on the race committee make it happen. Volunteers work as
a liaison between TISC & the fleet, set up & coordinate the race.
- Principal Race Officer (PRO) - serving as coordinator for race
events (scheduling, judging, etc.)
- Regatta Chairperson
- Serving as liaison between TISC and the participating race fleets prior
to, during and after race events
- Providing support for race day events (set up, race management, clean-up)
FUNDRAISING
Involvement can range from membership growth, to event planning, to
presenting to parties interested in the growth and development of the Treasure
Island Sailing Center.
- Event planning for fundraising events
- Grant writing
- Contact generation (Who do you know?)
MARKETING AND
PUBLICATIONS
This group handles the marketing and public relations on the organization and
its programs by assisting with newsletters, press releases, and communicating
with the media about upcoming events.
- Design and management of the website
- Writing/publication of New Horizons
- Distribution of the New Horizons newsletter
- Event planning
- Distribution & follow up of press releases to TV, Radio, newspapers,
magazine companies
FACILITY
The group is responsible for projects that improve and/or maintain the
facility and equipment. In addition, they handle the upkeep and maintenance of
the TISC facility and all boats.

doors etc
