TISC ADULT SAILING PROGRAM
At Treasure Island Sailing Center, we have a passion for the sport of sailing and we want to share it with you. We have a number of classes planned for Spring 2008. Check out our schedule for Fall.
Class Descriptions:
TISC Dinghy and Keelboat Classes can be taken more than once to improve upon the skills learned. Repeating the course will give participants the necessary "tiller time" to master basic sailing skills.
Dinghy Class: Sailing in a dinghy is fun, fast, and physical! The dinghy class will cover basic sailing skills. The class will take place in the protected waters of Clipper Cove and uses double-handed Flying Junior dinghies. Each sailor will learn how to skipper and crew. The boats can capsize, so be prepared to get wet. TISC provides wetsuits and lifejackets. Skills covered: tacking, docking, jibing, reaching, capsize recovery, safety position, upwind/downwind sail trim, points of sail, knowledge of boat parts, rigging, derigging, knot tying, wind direction.
Keelboat Class: The keelboat class will introduce sailors to the basics of safely sailing a keelboat. This class will take place in Clipper Cove, and will also venture out into the waters of San Francisco Bay. Sailors will learn how to skipper and crew a J/24 through basic maneuvers in various wind and sea conditions. Skills covered: tacking, jibing, docking, reaching, sail trim, upwind/downwind sail trim, points of sail, knowledge of boat parts, rigging, derigging, knot tying, wind direction.
Adventure Descriptions:
Clipper Cove Kayak Tour: Hop on a two person kayak and paddle away! TISC's sit-on-top kayaks are fun and easy to maneuver. Two hour kayak tours will teach you the basics of paddling and maneuvering kayaks in the protected waters of Clipper Cove. Once you get the basics down, the fun really begins; kayak under the Bay Bridge, race against your fellow kayakers, get wet, and have a blast! Be sure to bring a change of clothes, you will get wet. TISC provides wetsuits.
Keelboat Fun Sail: Fun Sails allow past keelboat class participants to sharpen their skills and newcomers a chance to try out sailing for the day! Spend three hours enjoying the beautiful sights and sounds you can only experience while sailing on the Bay. This event will use J/24 keelboats.
Dinghy Fun Sail: Dinghy Fun Sails allow past dinghy class participants a chance to practice the skills they've learned on their own. An instructor will be on-hand to help rig boats and to monitor the sailing area (Clipper Cove). **Participants must take the dinghy class prior to participating in the Fun Sail. Wetsuits must be worn by all sailors.**
