US Sailing - Basic Keelboat

This is a US Sailing basic keelboat certification course. It is highly recommended that students take the course on consecutive weekends. If this is not possible accommodation can be made. TISC does allow students to take only Basic Keelboat weekend one, however no US Sailing course materials will be issued until you have successfuly signed up for weekend two.

What you get

Upon successfully completing both weekend one and two of instruction as well as the written exam, students will be issued a US Sailing Basic Keelboat certification sticker, Log Book, and 1 Year US Sailing Membership.

US Sailing - Basic Keelboat - Weekend 1
d During the first weekend of our Basic Keelboat series students will work on building a solid foundation of sailing techniques. They will learn water safety, sailing terminology, sail trim, boat handling, and will get an introduction to the physics of sailing. Classroom time is devoted to understanding how a sailboat is propelled upwind. Other classroom topics include terminology, points of sail, and efficient sailing. Our goal is to get you out on the water as soon as possible. Once you've set sail, our US Sailing certified instructor will work with you on sail trim and boat balance as you sail over the incredible waters of the San Francisco Bay. Students are not expected to swim at any time during class, but there is a chance of getting splashed. TISC has spray gear available. Life jackets will be worn at all times.

US Sailing - Basic Keelboat - Weekend 2
03 keelboat two
Students will review techniques from weekend 1, but basic sailing experience is assumed. During Weekend 2 topics will begin to become more practical covering basic navigation, crew recovery, and seamanship. On the water students will refine the skills learned during Weekend 1 while practicing the concepts learned in the classroom. You'll return to the dock a bit early on your last day. It's test time! A written test will be administered. Once corrected your log book and certification stamp will be yours!  You're certified!  If for any reason you cannot pass the written or practical test, TISC allows you to join any other keelboat class until you are ready to pass the test at no additional charge.

Advanced Keelboat - Overview

This course builds on the TISC Basic Keelboat Level I course to hone the student’s skills from that course, while emphasizing an increasing level of ‘ownership’ by the student of the management of the boat. This course closely follows the standards of a Basic Cruising course, with the omission of boat systems and maneuvering under power but adding advanced sail trim and boat handling skills.

Advanced Keelboat - Weekend 1
